EDUCATION ON WHAT I DO
Chiropractic Manipulation Therapy (CMT) refers to any sort of manipulation of vertebrae that are not situated in the proper position, or that are not functioning properly in an effort to protect the spinal cord and offer the body maximum structural integrity.
TRIGGER POINT DRY NEEDLING
Trigger Point Dry Needling (TDN) is an effective muscle therapy used to treat muscular tension and spasm which commonly accompanies conditions such as arthritis, nerve irritation, muscular strain, ligament strains and herniated discs. TDN uses a small, solid filament "dry" (without liquid solution) needle which is inserted in a contracted muscle to create a local twitch reflex which is both diagnostic and therapeutic as it is the first step in breaking the pain cycle. Research shows it will decrease muscle contraction, reduce chemical irritation, improve flexibility and decrease pain.
Fascial is the connective tissue that is formed by undulated collagen and elastic fibers arranged in distinct layers, and within each layer the fibers are aligned in a different direction. Manipulation therapy allows these fibers to move and relieve tension, this will then allow the musculoskeletal system to have better range of motion and functionality. If function is restored, pain will be decreased.
Active Release Technique (ART) combines manipulation and movement to treat soft tissues by identifying, isolating, and targeting the affected to break up the scar tissue.
The old Chinese medical maxim holds that pain results from the congestion, stagnation, and blockage of Qi, or vital energy, vital fluids, lymph, phlegm, and blood. If pain is the essence of disease, then suffering is a result of obstructed or irregular flow in the body. Dr. Maestas uses cupping to help get better blood flow to the muscles which will then allow the body to get nutrients necessary to heal.
